Description

The Lead Director of Photography is an integral production team manager tasked with the responsibility of guiding, coaching, and mentoring the Production team while also functioning as an active Director of Photography. A DHD Films DP is responsible for capturing the visual “look” developed during the pre-production phase of a project. As the Lead DP, you’ll help educate, guide, and develop the production team by providing continuous feedback, conduct routine debriefings, and promote efficiency through effective communication. A DHD Films Lead Director of Photography is a mentor, problem solver, and coach with extensive leadership skills.

Mission

To cohesively lead, shoot, and support the production team with best practices, technical troubleshooting, and overall quality control oversight.

Responsibilities

  • Weekly updates with Production team/direct reports
  • Weekly updates with Director of Operations
  • Weekly team collaboration with other leaders in the organization
  • Review of all projects being filmed for visual/audio quality assurance
  • Continuous feedback to Production team
  • Assignment of shooters to projects
  • Quarterly DP Reviews
  • Gear room audits
  • Procedure audits
  • Equipment research and purchasing
  • Listing and selling of older/unneeded equipment
  • Uphold DHD Films visual standard, ensuring DHD continues to stay on the leading edge of cinematography
  • Maintains photographic quality and continuity of the production
  • Process development/improvement
  • Plans and supervises the lighting of all scenes
  • Sets the camera position, camera angle, and any camera movement for each shot based on the needs of the shoot
  • Chooses camera, lenses, filters, film stock, and any other camera equipment that may be needed
  • Monthly one-on-one’s with direct reports
  • Attends production meetings and location scouts
  • Maintains a professional appearance and demeanor at all times whilst representing DHD Films

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in filmmaking or equivalent
  • Minimum 3 years experience within an agency, production studio, or similar creative organization
  • Minimum 2 years experience as a Filmmaker
  • Active listening and problem-solving skills
  • Strong background & experience in audio & video
  • Possess strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to set priorities, multi-task and meet deadlines
  • Enthusiastic, positive energy, and able to work well under pressure
  • Flexibility in schedule to meet peak demands in a fast-paced environment
