It’s an understatement to say that things have changed a lot in the past few months. From remote work to virtual meetings, events and even virtual production – it seems like everyone’s way of doing business has been affected. The film and video production industry has been no exception. Although we’ve pivoted to offer remote, virtual, and contactless filming solutions to our clients, many are seeking to reignite in-person filming. We’ve modified our production practices to offer this service in the safest way possible.

It Starts In The Cloud

While the current health crisis seems to be improving somewhat, we’re still keeping our initial interactions with clients in the cloud. Discovery calls, kickoffs and pre-production planning are easy to accomplish via the internet and provide a good platform for collaboration. Whether its Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Hangouts, or any other video conferencing platform, virtual pre-production has become the norm.

What About Talent?

Another new, yet efficient, development in our practices has been the ability to take the casting process online. Tools like Backstage allow us to do casting virtually. We can even conduct auditions and wardrobe selection virtually. An added bonus is that clients can be more directly involved in this process, as virtual auditions cut down the need for travel, and recorded sessions allow for asynchronous review and feedback.

Location, Location, Location

Of course, not everything can happen virtually. This is especially true for on-location filming. Our location selection process involves extensive location scouting and vetting of potential locations for optimal health and safety issues. Our goal is to maintain as much physical distance and ventilation as possible, so this is one of the criteria we use when screening locations. Additionally, we ensure that every location is equipped with appropriate sanitation supplies to ensure a clean and safe environment for all.

Show Time

On the day of filming, we take all of the expected precautions. All cast and crew are required to wear face masks at all times, with cast being exempt only when on-camera. We also check everyone’s temperature upon arrival to the set and provide ample hand sanitizer and spare face masks. Crews are kept to a minimum and maintain as much physical distance as possible at all times. Clients can even attend the filming remotely via a live feed of the shoot that can be streamed to their remote location.

We’re excited to be returning to a more familiar cycle of production, but are remaining as cautious as possible for the safety of everyone involved. Of course, if physical production is still off the table for logistic or safety reasons, we offer a full suite of options for both Virtual Event Productions and Contactless Filming Solutions. Reach out to us and let us put the best (and safest) package together for your next production.
