Hello everyone and welcome to week 3 of the intern blog series. This week, we’re focusing on self-care and how we practice it. We hope everyone can take away something worthwhile. 

Sanju on the Importance of Self-Reflection

Growing up, we were taught to not express our emotions because we would become a burden to others. While that may hold true to a degree, it is not an efficient way to face your problems and seek help. In the past couple of months, I have had a lot of time to think for myself and I decided to pursue therapy. On top of that, I’ve started practicing daily meditation through an app called Headspace for my anxiety.

Ever since I started following these steps, I’ve noticed positive changes in the way I react to things. Speak up about how you feel, whether it to be to your family, friends, therapist, or even Twitter because there is always someone out there who will support and help you through it. Last but not least, try to make an active change in your daily routine or the way you think about yourself, no matter how difficult it may seem. 

Simran Reflects on Time Management & Productivity

We all see our full calendar every day, filled with back to back meetings, webinars, projects, and assignments. Here’s an idea: take a break and think through your priorities each day! Along with taking time to sit back and reflect, set a schedule and intention at the beginning of the day. Adjust your schedule to prioritize the least interesting and most important tasks first. Most importantly, incorporate short breaks in your schedule. Set time limits to avoid overworking yourself and cut off all distractions for that time period.

Arij Walks Us through Skincare and Feeling Put-Together

When someone mentions self-care, the first thing that pops into people’s minds is taking time for yourself and relaxing. What exactly does that mean though? To me, it means making sure your skin looks and feels healthy. Your skin is the first thing that people see about you and it reflects you more than you think. Here are 3 steps I think everyone should incorporate into their skincare routine: 

  1. Cleanse: Cleaning your skin gets rid of the day’s (or night’s) dirt and sweat gives you a brighter complexion and leaves you less prone to acne.
  2. Protect: After cleansing, make sure you protect your skin by closing your pores back up to keep dirt out. I prefer to use a skin toner for this step!
  3. Moisturize: The last step is to moisturize your skin. Moisturizing can prevent your skin from becoming too dry as well as too oily. 

There are many products out there for each of these steps and finding the right ones becomes way easier when you know your skin type. Skincare is a great thing to practice and can help you feel a little more in control, especially in such uncertain times.

One of the most overlooked aspects of self-care is gratitude and positivity. No matter how hard we work on our body, there is one thing we always need to understand and remember: it’s the mind that controls the body, and not the other way around. Why does this matter? A stable life depends, in its entirety, on our minds. Make sure you thank the universe for all the small perks first thing in the morning followed by reading anything positive before you kickstart your day. You’re welcome!

Saniya Lists Clean Eating and Healthy Habits

People say you are what you eat and at first, I never agreed to this thought. However, with time, I realized that the context of this saying was not only limited to the physical aspect of a human body but also the mental aspect. People usually confuse eating healthy with a “habit” they have to learn over time but in reality, it is a routine that humans can develop through their life.

Eating fresh and clean keeps your metabolism, digestion, and heart active and healthy. It also helps to keep your mental state clean from negativity and stress and also helps you relax and sleep more calmly. Healthy eating doesn’t mean taking in antioxidants or going on diets/cleanses but to have balanced food. Every individual knows their body quite well, and to maintain that body, they have to tone their eating habits accordingly. Karen Salmansohn has said, “Healthy does NOT mean starving yourself, EVER. Healthy means eating the right food in the right amount” and I wholeheartedly agree. 

Self-care means something different for everyone but no matter the meaning, it’s worth practicing. When we take care of ourselves and treat ourselves with respect, everyone else will too. How will you practice self-care?
