North Texas Businesses Commemorate 9/11

Another September 11 has passed, commemorating a tragedy that will forever be remembered.  Freedom Day, hosted by Communities Foundation of Texas for Business, is a community-wide day of volunteer service designed to honor those who lost their lives on 9/11. DHD proudly participated in this year’s 18th annual celebration.

Freedom Day saw entire families spring into service. Shown is 2018’s Freedom Day highlight video.

The event began at the Communities of Foundation of Texas, where the team listened to a rousing keynote speech by hate crime survivor, Rais Bhuiyan, who was shot in the face by a white supremacist in Dallas shortly after 9/11. Rais recovered after many months and later campaigned to save his attacker from being executed. Although he was unsuccessful, Rais continues to champion “a world without hate” via his nonprofit. His Freedom Day speech, filled with caring and empathy, set the tone for the day’s events.

Used in the social campaign leading up to Freedom Day, this animated piece motivated volunteers to register.

The DHD team spent the rest of the day at Equest, a nonprofit that offers equine therapy for people with disabilities. The team banded together to trim trees, muck stalls, clear brush, and feed horses, completing a day of service in the blazing summer heat.

Additionally, DHD Film Crews were dispatched across the metroplex to capture the day’s activities. Taking the crew to Hunger Busters, Mission Continues, and Patriot Paws, DHD was honored to participate in and document this impactful day. We are pleased to debut the 2019 Freedom Day Video.

Here we debut 2019’s Freedom Day highlights, expanding on the tremendous success of this event.

In total, Freedom Day served 24 nonprofits manned by 1,500 volunteers across 35 projects sites. From care packages for first responders to meals packed for at-risk youth, #FreedomDay2019 was a both a tremendous success and compelling proof that North Texans truly care about their community.
